| La Trama |
| II principe Amleto di Danimarca, turbato da oscuri presentimenti, decide di far luce sulla morte del padre. Egli so spetta infatti la madre e I’attuale re, lo zio Claudius. Per far questo dovrà scontrarsi con gli intrighi di corte, ma anche con il suo tormentato rapporto con la madre. Tutto ciò mina anche il suo rapporto con Ofelia che la spinge verso la pazzia e il suicidio. Gli strani comportamenti di Amleto lo fanno passare per folle. Solo la vendetta, alla fine, sembra I’unica via d’uscita... |
| La Regia |
| Laurence Olivier nasce a Dorking, Gran Bretagna, nel 1907. A 17 anni si iscrive a una scuola di teatro e a 19 esordisce sulle scene, specializzandosi in ruoli shakespeariani. Debutta sullo schermo nel ’39 con La voce nella tempesta (1939), ma il successo arriva con Rebecca, la prima moglie (Rebecca, 1940). Esordisce alla regia nel 1944 con Enrico V (Henry V), cui faranno seguito: Amleto (Hamlet, 1948); Riccardo III (Richard III, 1955); II principe e la ballerina (The Prince and the Showgirl, 1957); Le tre sorelle (1970). Vincitore dell'Oscar speciale per la carriera (1978). Ha interpretato tra gli altri: Gli occhi che non sorrisero (1952); Spartacus (1960); Gli insospettabili (1973); Amore tra le rovine (1975); Il maratoneta (1976); Il Bounty (1984). Muore a Steyning l'11 luglio del 1989. |

| II film è stato girato, in bianco e nero, a Elsinore, Danimarca. Leone d’Oro a Venezia, il film ha vinto due Oscar: miglior film e miglior attore protagonista. Fino a oggi sono state girate oltre 56 versioni della tragedia di William Shakespeare. La più recente e quella di Kenneth Branagh, che per la prima volta ha ripreso integralmente il testo originale. |
