| Una spedizione cerca di far luce sul mistero di una strana creatura preistorica che abiterebbe nelle acque di un fiume nell’Amazzonia. II mostro esiste; è metà uomo e metà pesce e se importunato sa essere molto pericoloso. Ma non manca di sentimenti, come constaterà la bella Kay Lawrence. |
| La Regia |
| Jack Arnold è nato nel 1916 a New Haven, Connecticut. Debutta come regista nel 1953 con «Ragazze nella notte» (Girls In the Night). Si cimentera in tutti i generi canonici del cinema hollywoodiano, facendosi apprezzare specialmente come regista di horror e film di fantascienza. Tra i suoi lungometraggi. «La vendetta del mostro» (Revenge of The Creature, 1955), «Tarantola» (Tarantula, 1955), «Radiazioni BX distruzione uomo» (The Incredible Shringking Man, 1957), «Ricerche diaboliche» (Monster on The Campus, 1958) e un piccolo capolavoro del genere cornico, «II ruggito del topo» (The Mouse That Roated, 1959). |
| Le Curiosità |
| Girato in 3D, il film è ricordato ancora oggi per il grande successo della Creatura, che infatti tornera di lì a poco in altri due lungometraggi, «La vendetta del mostro» (Revenge of The Creature) e «II terrore sul Mondo» (The Creature Walks Among Us, 1956) di John Sherwood. II costume era in lattice di gomma, verde e oro, dal costo di circa 50.000 dollari. A indossarlo nel film furono il mimo Ben Chapman per le scene sulla terraferma e il subucqueo Ricou Browning per le difficilissime riprese sott’ acqua. Tutti gli esterni furono girati in Florida. |
