| La Trama |
| Appena abbandonato dalla fidanzata per il suo cinismo Jed, un pilota d’aviazione, rimane affascinato da una bambinaia che occupa la stanza d’albergo di fronte alla sua. Riuscito ad agganciarla, Jed scopre presto che la ragazza è una psicopatica che ha da poco lasciato una clinica psichiatrica e a cui lo zio, impiegato nell’albergo, ha trovato un lavoro temporaneo. L’intervento dello zio provoca la furiosa reazione della ragazza, che prima lo colpisce, poi, dopo aver legato la bambina, tenta di suicidarsi. Jed salverà entrambe, superando il proprio egoismo. |
| La Regia |
| Nato Londra nel 1916, Roy Ward Baker studia in Francia e in Gran Bretagna e nel 1934 diventa aiuto regista alla Gainsbourough. Nel 1947 gira il suo primo film: «Prigioniero della paura» (The October Man) con James Mason. Nel 1951 si trasferisce i Hollywood dove rimane otto anni. Tornato in Inghilterra, realizza «Titanic, Iatitudine 41 nord» (A Night to Remember, 1958), molto apprezzato dulla critica, e nel 1961 dirige un curioso western psicologico: «II coraggio e la sfida» (The Singer not the Song). Passato alla Hammer, si dedica a due generi che lo renderanno famoso Ia fantascienza e I’horror. Fra le pellicole che realizza ricordiamo: «L' astronave degli esseri perduti» (Quatermass and the Pitt, 1367), «Vampiri amanti» (Vampire Lovers, 1970), «Barbara, il mostro di Londra» (Dr. Jekyll and Sister Hyde, 1971). |
